There are three lifesupport awards with higher levels requiring knowledge of more techniques and higher levels of competance. The awards are not sequential so you can take a life support III straight off if you want.
- Life Support 1 Tests 1,2 and 7
- Life Support 2 Tests 1,2,3 and 7
- Life Support 3 Tests 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7
- Test 1 This is a demonstration on a live simulated casualty of the correct diagnosis and initial stages of treatment for a person who seems to be unconscious and not breathing, following a rescue from water. It will include simulated rescue breathing, action for vomiting and the recovery position.
- Test 2 This is a demonstration on an approved adult manikin of the assessment of a casualty who seems to be unconscious and not breathing, followed by a three minute sequence of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using the techniques appropriate for a single rescuer.
- Test 3
This is a demonstration on an approved adult manikin of the techniques of cardiopulmonary resusitation (CPR). Co-operating with a trained assisstant demonstrate two person CPR for three minutes.
- Test 4 This is a demonstation on an approved child manikin of the assessment of a child casualty who seems to be unconscious and not breathing, followed by a three minute sequence of cardiopulmonary resusitation (CPR).
- Test 5 This is a demonstation on an approved baby manikin of the assment of a baby casualty who seems to be unconscious and not breathing, followed by a three minute sequence of cardiopulmonary resusitation (CPR).
- Test 6 Using initiative, demonstrate the diagnosis and treatment of two casualties using the skills and knowledge contained in the Life Support 3 syllabus.
- Test 7 Answer 4-6 (LS1)/6-8 (LS2)/7-10 (LS3) questions on the following topics:
- Basic life support sequence
- Differences in basic life support for adults, children and babies
- Choking
- Bleeding
- Shock
- Hypothermia (LS2/3)
- Drowning (LS2/3)
The standards to be shown are competence (LS1), proficiency (LS2) and exellence (LS3).
